I have two hummingbird fish/depth finders helix 5 one is GPS the other is Down imaging and neither gives me alerts when fish pass by. I’ve caught plenty of fish but rarely has it bussed. I have messed with sensitivity but nothing. I don’t believe I could troll around to find schools of fish with these finders. Is it something I’m missing? Thanks for any advice.

You’re probably better off that it doesn’t… How does the unit know if the return is a fish or a stick?

Not sure what you’re expecting… the sounder doesn’t find the fish.. that’s your job. They just confirm the presence of fish

My hook and Helix see fish and display arches.
Sometimes I am able to catch them as well.
Time to sit down with that online 243 page manual and go through it.
I try not to use too many of the features as it can be very time consuming and detracts from the boating/fishing experience.

i like the find my way home feature , it great on the river , i never get lost.
also i have not hit the sand banks in the estuary once since i fitted one to the new to me boat , that depth finder is the best feature, mo more sand rooster tails .
it also has a fish finder , but i don't think that works.

Agree…I go as far as to run my sounders in manual mode. Make adjustments to range, gain and sensitivity as needed, manually.

A real pain on units with menu driven controls. Much prefer units with push buttons and knobs
