I was at a auction and found a fish finder (new) than I ended up buying for 50 bucks. We used it last year 2 times on a friends pontoon and it seem to work decent considering I have NO clue how to work the stupid thing.

I was considering using it on the Baja however I have never nor will I ever fish and need the fish finding stuff on it. We basically just used it as a depth finder.

I really just need a dept/temp gauge and not anything this big. Is it worth the $50 bucks I paid for it? Should I just buy a in dash temp/depth and not bother using this large box?

Here is what it looks like. I am sure people on here that fish might know something about it/

LCD screens that are commonly referred to as fish finders are nice if you fish because you can see the fish. If you don't fish, they are also invaluable to use for navigation. It gives you a "picture" of the bottom so you can follow your chart better.

IMHO, the digital in-dash gauges are just about worthless. If my boat came with one I'd put a clock on top of it....LOL.

If you are concerned that yours is too big, Humminbird makes one for about $90 that shows depth, bottom contour and temp. and its about half the size.

I will have to check into this. I really do not have room for this thing and I do no fishing at all. I have also been looking at maybe getting one that has GPS if I can find one that does all the above for 500 or less.

I've used a 4000 LCR Humminbird ,which is a great deal like the 2000 you just bought, for something like 25 years. That's 25 years with the same instrument without even a hint of trouble.

I fish, but most of the time I use it only as a depth finder and it works fine for that purpose. As to value, since it apparently works, it looks to me like you got a fair deal. No fantastic bargain, but not a rip off either.
