I am considering this combo unit, but can't find much detail on the Nav screens.

I'm curious what detail it shows when approaching a waypoint.

Does the scale change automatically, is there a pointer to the wp, does the wp show as an icon getting closer, does the icon dance around as it is approached????

I am use to my old Magellan Meridian were there are several screens that graphically show the wp with direction pointers as well as range, brg, eta, ttg, etc.

None of the these were clearly listed in the on line manual or the various youtube demo's.

Thanks for any info you might have.

I got a 788CI a few months back, but can't answer most of your questions because I have not used that mode. I has an arrival alarm and there is a path shown to your waypont. You can download the manual at the website and maybe get your answers.

My 798 would have the same gps screens as 788. Unfortunatly, I boat "small" water and do not create and use routes. I have plenty of waypoints though. At default settings and approaching one, nothing special happens. You can select a waypoint to approach and it will put distance circles around it. Most of my waypoints have an icon of a camera, because when I marked it, I saved a screenshot.

PS: Look at some of the 800 series manuals. Those are the newest models and might have more up to date info.
