was planning on buying the combo and realized that it came with the transducer that is the through the hull transducer.i have a aluminum fishing boat (16' supersport) and am not sure if this transducer would function the same as one that would mount on the outside on the transom? seems it only come that way in the combo package. great price and good reviews.

Unless things have changed it can be made to a through hull.

Call Humminbird and see if they will swap out the thru-hull ducer for a transom mount ducer with the brackets. (I wouldn't want to have a thru-hull ducer on a tinney) I've heard that sonar companies will swap ducers, if you ask nicely. :joyous:

Also, if they will swap ducers, ask for the rubber plug to fill the gap between the bracket and ducer. Without the plug the ducer could cause a rooster-tail. They sent me the plug for free.

I installed that unit on my boat last spring,,, I'm very pleased with it's operation.. Dont know if your going to run the tranducer wire through the transom or pin it up and over.... make sure you dont cut the wire and splice if you run it through... most drill through..interestingly, you will find you will need a 5/8 hole to pass that transducer head connection through cleanly... you will like that unit...

The rubber plug you mention has me a bit confused! Would you be able to post a pic? I installed my transducer exactly as the manual says but I have a rooster tail that shoots 8' into the air.
