I have been looking to replace my old fish finder and the humminbird 575 strikes my fancy, but neither Pro bass shop nor Gander mountain offers them in their stores and it seems that the only way to get them is online.
Is there some hidden defect that caused this fish finder to be hard to get in the stores? (You know something like a monstrous transducer that causes a spray or something similar).

Re: Humminbird 575.

A quick surfing session shows that this unit is available at Cabellas and our sponsors site .

As for its' seeming unavailibillity in a retail setting , that could be due to a number of factors .
A lot of retailers have finite stock and display capacity , so will typically carry a few models of a manufacturers line .
They usually carry an entry level model , a couple models in mid level trim , and a model or 3 of the higher end products .
They don't like to carry a lot of models with slightly different feature sets , since it often confuses the sales folks , and , the customers .
They also would have a lot of overhead tied up in all those units .

If they are a dealer of the product , they may be able to special order that item , even if they do not regularly stock it .
If they get enough requests for a particular model , they will probably start stocking it .

It never hurts to ask . ;)
