I recently bought my first boat, a doral cavalier (89) that has not seen water in 3+ years. The bottom looks good no cracks but its slightly faded, what would be the steps to sealing the bottom or would it be good to just float it and see? If i wanted to paint the boat what paint would anyone recommend? The prop was left up so i think the bellows is cracked but the seal around the prop looks okay or should that be replaced?

fiberglass boat or aluminum?

gel fades due to age

however with any new to you boat, you need to do all the maintenance that the prior owner didnt do. that includes an impeller job, a gear oil change, and from the sounds of it an impeller job.

in addition since you dont specify what brand of motor/drive, there will be alignment checks, bearing checks, and other maintenance to make sure the boat is safe to use.

Don’t paint it. You’d be as well just throwing $100 bills out the window.

:welcome: to iBoats . . .

If you are going to keep the boat in the water, you should put barrier coat (Interlux Interprotect 2000) on the bottom (at/below the water line.) then maybe an anti-fouling paint . . . depends on if you boat in salt water or un-salted :noidea:

No need to paint anywhere else . . . except the outdrive, if in salt water.

As to your other question about the engine in the other thread - post a picture or 2 along with the engine serial number in that thread for better input. Our mind reading skills take us only so far. :)

Reduce the size of your pictures (using a photo editor app) to about 880 x 660 and they will upload
