I Have a 1971 Thunderbird Sawnee 17 ft trihull boat. I need to find the hull number. I found a set of numbers that I believe is the hull number but are not engraved into the boat. I found it printed on a metal tag on the stern of the boat. NJZ-#####-hull. Does this look like a hull number. It looks like it was added on. The reason I ask is that there is no title on the boat and I can't find the last owner that had it registered. How hard is it to get a title in NJ. They told me to send a letter to the the Dmv with the boat information and in a month they would let me know how to obtain a title. Talk about leaving you hanging.

Thanks
Warren

Re: Hull number and titles

it should read HIN NUMBER , for hull id #. it should contain 12 characters.. example : NJZ9876E393 NEW JERSEY .THE Z indicates that the first two letters indicate a state not manufacturer. the next 5 characters are serial #'s the last 4 represent month & year may 1993

Re: Hull number and titles

did you check the registeration sticker. you can take that info to local boat registers office and they can tell you last registered owner. also the metal plate at the back is the hull number if you cant read it take plain paper and place over plate and shadow with pencil to bring up numbers

Re: Hull number and titles

Weren't Hull numbers "standardized" in 1976 so numbers prior to that were not necessarily (sp?)of the same format or attached/engraved by today's standard? Just something I think I remember reading somewhere so I could be way off base. Or maybe 1976 was when floatation became mandantory!?!?

BL...

Question on this 76 Fiberform:

Its HIN IS:

FBF26156M76K-LCS

What does all this mean?

I was told by the owner it was 32 ft, but I think he was wrong. I just measured it, and from the back of the boat to the tip is 25.5'

Thanks,

H.

Homerr,
Just a guess. FBF26156M76K-LCS.
FBF = MIC, manufacturer's id code issued by governing agencies.
26 = hull length.
The rest might be combination of serial number, model and options.
Mike
