I am looking at putting in a Thru hull exhaust on my 1988 Four Winns Sundowner. Does anyone know a good site to purchase a nice exhaust for a reasonable price and roughly how long it takes to install a exhaust like this? I am not sure if I am going to install a above the water exhaust or a dual exhaust which I can switch over when going into docks and etc. It's got a 305 Chevy motor and a OMC outdrive on it. Any advice/links anyone can provide would be great. thanks

For $50 I'll sell you a CD with the soundtrack of a roaring marine engine (a REAL engine like on a go-fast boat, not a 305) that you can play whenever chicks are around. For $100 I'll give you the upgrade package that includes detailed plans on how to cut some useless holes in your boat also. Put a shiny pipe in them, play your CD and voila.....thru hull !!!!

j/k.....I have no useful info for you.

My 88 sundowner was bought with thru installed. All they did was install tips in the transom (without sealing the raw wood), bought a 45 degree fitting, ran a hose down from the riser, then 45 Degree, then out the back.
They threw away the y-tube. Keep yours, you may need it.

Ayuh,..... Define Reasonable.....

You're probably looking at a Day or 2 for installation....

You would need to add sum zeros to more in the 1500 range

For one thing, it's going to be noisy enough to give you a headache after an hour of running or so. Then, you have to pull the engine beause there is a block off plate that has to be installed on the inner transom mount to seal up the original exhaust opening. So there is a lot of labor there, and you'll wind up with a boat that may sound great from far away but may be too noisy to use for any length of time. A questionable investment on a boat that age. I have a FW of the same age and with the normal exhaust it's nice and quiet. Wouldn't want to change from that.

Price the Captains Choice, then look at how to install, then look in the doghouse.
How much room ya got to work in? If you have a good cutting angle on the y pipe.
