Hub Replacement - 1986 Glassport (Tennessee Trailers?)

I took my, recently acquired, 1986 Glassport bass boat out for the third time yesterday. As I backed it into my driveway I heard a loud squealing sound. When I inspected the hubs I mad a harrowing discover. My bearings were completely gone on one of them. When I jacked the trailer up, I was able to pull the wheel and hub completely off without removing the lug nuts. Regardless to say, I am counting my blessings.

My problem now, nothing compared to what it could have been, is to find the right hub to fix my trailer. A mechanically inclined friend of mine, who inspected the damage, told me I need a new hub. The spindle suffered only minor damage that can be grinded and sanded out. I have no idea how to find the right hub though.

My trailer, as far as I can tell, is the original one that came with the boat. It has a Glassport sticker with Tennessee Trailer listed as the manufacturer.

Does anyone have any idea how I can determine the right hub?

I will be inspecting my wheels more closely before heading to and coming from the lake from now on. I hope that you all do the same, especially those with older equipment. I hate to think what would have happened had I hit a bump and the weight of the trailer/boat had been lifted long enough for the wheel to come off.

Thanks,
bassloverky

Re: Hub Replacement - 1986 Glassport (Tennessee Trailers?)

Trailer hubs are very standard and the make of your trailer has little to do with anything. Here's the info you need:

1) Four bolt or five bolt wheel?
2) No brakes, electric brakes, or hydraulic brakes
3) Bearing size: 2000 pound axles generally have hubs with 1-1/16 inch inner and outer bearings. 3500 pound axles generally have hubs with 1-1/16 outer and 1-3/8 inner bearings. There are part numbers on the bearings. If both bearings have the same numbers or are the same size, you have a 2000 pound axle. If the inner bearing has a larger bore than the outer, you have a 3500 pound axle.
4) Complete hub and bearing kits are available right here on iBoats, Champion Trailers, or any discount chain that sells sporting goods. Cabelas, Bass Pro and similar stores as well.
