i have an 88 bass tracker in the orginal trailer, putting new tires on today and i managed to break off one of the threaded inserts for the wheel bolts so now i get to put on new hubs  . The question is how do i know what hubs i need i know the rims are 5 on 4.5 but don't know bout the current bearing size, do i have to remove the hub to find out. Finally am i going to do any damage on short trips using only the four bolts on one side?

thanks

Re: Hub question

You can just replace the stud that broke. They are pressed in. You can either order one online from a trailer parts place or pound out one of the good ones and bring it to a well stocked auto parts store to see if they carry one.

I have had problems finding them at auto parts stores and have found that buying them from trailer parts suppiers were better.

here is an example of one:

The three dimensions shown on that drawing are what you are going to need to match up.

I wouldn't drive on 4 studs. Last summer, I had one stud break off. Within 50 miles, I lost my tire as all the other studs gave out.

Re: Hub question

i guess what i am trying to say is that the plate behind the tire that the bolt goes into has accually broke (bolt was harder than the plate and i gave it too much with the bar apearently)

for illistration sake here is a hub pic the area i have done in pink has been sacrificed to my hulking strength or possibily stupidity, i don't believe this can be fixed for less money than a new hub
