Hub and Seal Question

Bought a new (to me) late 70's trailer, and when I pulled-off the wheels, they were coated with splatter grease - over-packed Bearing-Buddies, I thought.
First...
Pulled the hubs and noticed the seal-surface on the spindle is grooved. I see replacement spindles are cheap ($10), but I have no idea how to replace these (straight axle). I've also seen Spindo Seals, which seem like they would solve my problem. Is this correct, and if so, does the kit contain everything I need?
Second...
Knowing I'd have to remove the seal, I used a trick I learned long ago (high school auto shop) - remove the outer bearing, reinstall the hub reinstall the washer and spindle nut, and PULL! Wasn't easy, but it worked. Looking at the races, they aren't perfect, with small pits/cracks that look like they were part of the casting process (25-years ago). Is this normal? Most of the bearing kits list "races" as part of the kit. Is this the solution to my problem, or do I just break-down and get new hubs?

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Re: Hub and Seal Question

1st) Spindles are Welded in.... Go with the Speedi-sleeves....
2nd) Which ever you care..... All the new hubs will do is, You won't have to drive the new races into place.... It's Your Time, Or Money....

"Looking at the races, they aren't perfect, with small pits/cracks that look like they were part of the casting process (25-years ago). Is this normal?"
NO, That's the Wear-pattern.... Not casting marks... Replace Them....

bondo,
Thanks for the reply. Either way, I'm not talking a lot of money, but don't want to throw it away, either!

Anyone have any experience with the Spindo Seals?

Thanks!
Ed
