Neighbor has the same boat.Looking at a yamaha vmax 175 hp 2 stroke hpdi 20 inch shsft. I have a wellcraft 190 ccf with max hp rating of 150. Is this a bad idea? Looks like It weighs about 100 lbs more than a 130 yamaha picture is my current setup
Yes please keep to one thread for best info from the group.About 12 hrs ago you were going to stick a 25" Motor on this boat. Having multiple threads on your Repowering is going to be a Problem
Some states consider overpowering the rated capacity reckless operation regardless of how diligent you are w the throttle.Looking at a yamaha vmax 175 hp 2 stroke hpdi 20 inch shsft. I have a wellcraft 190 ccf with max hp rating of 150.
Was that motor mounted on a jack plate or did the dealer install it right to the transom effectively casing the prop to be 5 inches lower than designed?Neighbor has the same boat.
He replaced the Merc 90, 2 stroke it came with for a Yammie F150.
Long story…. Boat pulled heavy to right after repower. Tried everything. Asked that I come down to his marina to take a look.
Dealer hung 25” motor. Took a lawyer to get proper shaft length motor hung on the boat.
Boat runs good with proper leg on boat. Personally, too much motor for the boat for our normal (big water) conditions. The pounding going above 1/2 throttle on all but flat days is ridiculous. Can make the boat hard to control at times
Don’t worry Maineiac, you are actually dealing with 2 different issues and trying to determine which motor to go with. I think your best bet is to change the shaft and go with the right motor for the job.Ok so I'm leaning towards the 130 hp. Sorry for multiple threads
