HP rating at prop! What year?

I was reading some old posts, and came across hp rating changing from the drive shaft to the prop. (now I cant find it)

What year did this happen? (government mandated??)

Is this true with all Manufactures?

Hey you post something, and then you find what you were looking for.

But there seems to be a lot of confusion?
(omc "62", merc "81" or "83" etc..........)
Does anyone have a chart, or information to make a chart that would show each manufacture and what year they changed their respective ratings??

i read that post and find it hard to belevie that there would be 25 hp loss thru the drive assembly

Merc switched to prop ratings on the V6s and inline 4s and 6s in 1982. OMC waited till about 85 or 86


The 235 Johnrudes were prop rated at 185 hp, That was 50hp drop.
