Re: HP or Torque???What Should I pull with???
Why would tow capacity not be listed? Are you talking a new vehicle? If you search the older threads here, you'll find that tow capacity is a factor of much more than the HP or torque. It has to do with cooling (tranny and engine), tranny type, rearend gearing, wheelbase, braking ability, wt of tow vehicle and others. All mfr should give you 2 major capacities, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) which is how much weight can be loaded on the tow vehicle itself and Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) which is how much the tow vehicle and towed trailer can weigh. Both include everything such as passengers, fuel, coolers, water toys, etc. To get your "real" tow capacity you take the GCWR and subtract the Gross Vehicle Weight or GVW (which mustn't exceed the GVWR).

Specific to your HP vs torque question, the higher the torque, the easier it is to pull with. Little sports cars have high HP but not much torque while a big power stroke Ford has lots and lots of torque - hence they can pull heavy loads.

BL...
