Re: How to Winterize a 50' horse outboard?
Run fuel stabilizer in the gas, make sure the carbs get the treated stuff in 'em. I like to drain the bowls as much as possible, even with stabilized fuel. Fog the engine according to the directions on the can of fogging oil. Grease the zerks on the leg, change lower unit lube (new gaskets on the vent/fill screws) and pull the prop to grease the splines. I even coat the outside of the powerhead with a Mercury product called Corrosion Guard. It's a wax-like spray that inhibits corrosion. May even polish the outside of the motor with a marine wax, if it's cosmetic condition makes it worth the effort!
