I have a 1989 Mercury 175hp outboard with VRO removed. I currently premix gas 50:1. I have winterized my previous Force 125hp which was very easy.
But Mercury is a much different motor with VRO removed. I am looking for recommendations on proper Supplies and fluids to do the Winterization. And proper steps to follow to winterize it.

Simple stuff. Should be the same as your Force motor, I would think.

Add fuel stabilizer to fuel supply in proper ratio.

Run motor in barrel or on flusher device at idle for a few minutes to get stabilized fuel into carbs.

Spray fogging oil into each carb throat, and try to stall motor. If no stall turn it off when she smokes good.

Remove flusher or drain and remove barrel.

In no particular order: grease fittings (should be 3 or 4); rinse powerhead and spray with corrosion guard; fill PTT reservoir; clean and lubricate steering cable rod; charge and d/c battery; remove prop and lubricate propshaft; sand and paint prop.

Drain gear oil and refill using marine gear oil for mechanical shift motors. Use new gaskets on plugs; tighten with impact driver.

Make sure motor is trimmed down and all water has drained.

Chris, Do I need to drain the carbs or should or can I run it out of Gas? Do I need to remove the spark plugs and spray fogging oil into the piston area also and spin the motor?

Keep the fuel line attached. Do not run the motor out of fuel. No need to spray fogging oil into the cylinders.
