Hello,

I bought a boat with a tilt trailer, but I'm not sure how to use it. Also, can I have it tilted down to load the boat?
Thanks,
Eric

that will depend on the type of boat... a lot of trailers are "tilt" type, but not necessary to use the tilt unless launching in extreme shallow areas..... you should be able to back the trailer in enough for it to float off the trailer, then drive out from underneath it...

What kind of boat are we talking, and where do you plan to launch it?

The boat is a 17 ft v-hull glastron. I live in western Nebraska and the water levels are very low. Out of the 4 boat ramps at the lake, only on can be used due to water level.

Back the trailer until the tires just start to get wet...it depends on how steep the ramp is on how far you need to go. There is no reason to dunk the trailer unless you have too or want to float off. I avoid dunking the trailer when launching in saltwater.

Adjust the tilt chain so the tilt angle lets the boat roll off without digging the transom in the river bottom. Unhook the bow and push the bow up. If set up correctly the boat will want to roll off and splash. This works on big and small boats.

Retrieving is easier. You only need to put the trailer back far enough to a depth a little deeper than the boat will float in. Adjust the tilt so the trailer frame is just above the water. Bring the boat up and center it on the roller. Hook up and wind in. Lock the tilt and pull out.

in 40 years i've rarely had to use my tilt, just a couple of fishing lakes with very poor ramps or just plan dirt ramps. once had to use it to dry load the boat, because there was so much slit the trailer got stuck. had to disconnect, pull the truck up, use come-a-long to retrive trainer, then dry load. didn't use that ramp again.
