how to use a compression tester

I just bought a compression tester. Is it absolutley nessesary to warm the engine up first. My engine is currently not running. Thanks.

remove the sparkies and hook up the compression tester do a dry test crank the motor over and write down readings then do a wet test add alittle oil in the cylinder and take that readigns down and compare the differece in cylinder

What about warming the engine up, I can not do that because it is not starting right now.

Cold is fine, piston should come to top at least 4 times. Hot battery, all plugs out, throttle open. which engine?

My engine is a 1966 Merc 650 65hp 4cyl.

Cant find spects for compression , at least 100<br />lbs. ????

Go, Clanton!! Min of 100# and min diff of 15# is usable (even if it doesn'r match the book exactly) for almost any multicylinder 2 stroke. You are doing a fine job, Sir. They appreciate it, believe me.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . . . <br />JB
