How to tune/clean my carburetor?

I have a Johnson 85h with 2 dual carbs. It's on a 1980 V4. Just recently it seems as though the jets may have gotten gunked up and it's only giving me about 40% power on W.O.T. I'm not seeing a fuel filter that could be clogged and I've checked the plugs and made sure my fuel was mixed correctly. So can someone give me some pointers on the carb or link me to a really good troubleshooting walk through?

Re: How to tune/clean my carburetor?

I have a Yamaha repair manual for my 1985 115 hp V4 with 2 carbs. It shows step by step directions on cleaning the carbs. You just have to screw down any adjustable screws and note how many turns were done. Reset those adjustments to the same place when reassembled.

You just have to purchase a spray can of carb cleaners. If you're careful, the old gaskets may be reusable even. Carb kits are available, but not always needed.

I can pull my carbs, clean them and reassemble in 1 hour flat. It's just not that big of a job once you've done it.

The 90/10 gasolines are killers on any rubber parts in your boat. Don't forget to disassemble your fuel pump to see if there are any holes in the rubber membranes there. Change spark plugs and any filters while you're at it.
