I've looked at the FAQS, which only covers older motors. My manual says that adjustment must take place with motor in gear and boat "unrestrained", as in underway. So am I supposed to go around in circles out in the bay?

The manual also says to find the sweet spot between lean and rich, carb by carb. When working with one carb, or even two, this is easy, but with the interaction of 6, this seems challenging.

Any tips on best methods?.......

Yes , circle in the bay and adjust the carbs for the "sweet spot". You may have to do it two or three times.

Make sure you start with the correct initial setting. It is likely NOT 1-1/2 turns open

My OMC manual says 2-1/2 turns to start. I was going to take notes on how many turns the existing setting is as I remove/replace the needle. That should be a reasonable place to start.

Well, the spec for most of the '98 Johnny 150/HPV6 models is 5 turns open and the spec for a '98 Johnny 150JLE is 4 turns open. My advice is to get the exact spec for your model.

Good thing I checked back before rebuilding and tuning. First thing I need to do is verify I have the correct manual, because my manual clearly says 2-1/2 turns is the initial starting point after re-assembly......for the slow speed needle.

It states on the cover "Service Manual" for 125, 130, 200, 225, 250, and 300, 1994 OMC All rights reserved. And inside, my model number (J225TXEO) is listed as "serviced by this manual". But the motor graphics are for Venom and Vindicator.

I can't find any info on the web. Can anyone nail this down?

I always used to set them at 4-5 turns and then when I got on the water I'd use my "Ears" to find the best setting when adjusting.
