I just picked up a kayak.
Unlike a power boat where I can reverse direction with the motor to get the anchor loose I cannot do that with a paddled Kayak.
I understand that you can tie the line to the bottom of the grappling style anchor first and then run the line to the top eye securing it with a ty wrap which in turn will break when too much stress is put on it if snagged. When that breaks you would be pulling at the bottom of the anchor making it easier to free.
I have never heard of this but it makes sense.
Has anyone here ever tried it?

I have a kayak myself and have a small kayak anchor, the one that looks like a small grappling hook that folds up. Never had an issue with it sticking or hanging up, but I can always just paddle forward until I am over the anchor and pull it straight up. I also made an anchor trolley so I can position my kayak with the wind while anchored. Be sure you have an anchor with a bouy attatched in case it comes untied. I can't see you having any issues with a kayak, I am 60 yrs old and have not had any issues I can't handle in a kayak but I also use a lot of common sense.

I was thinkin' the same thing. We used to make little "bucket" anchors outta' concrete for use on the lake with the little boats. It was almost like sendin' a ball down to the bottom to hold you still for a little bit.
