I need to test trigger and stator on the Force 125 hp outboard. Can someone explain, I have some experience in electronics but a little in the dark on the boating electronics...

You can test the resistance in the windings with a VOM, but even a good result of it maybe a bad stator.
The best way is to measure the output from the stator and trigger.
Using a DVA meter (special for OB and other vehicle troubleshooting) or a VOM with a DVA adapter.
The output from the stator should be 200 VDC or more at cranking speed and the output from the trigger 0,5 VDC or more.
BTW: If you are handy you can build your own DVA adapter.
Google DVA adapter and you will see how it is built.
It work like you are charging a capacitor thru a resistor and diod.
You measure the voltage in the charged capacitor, that is your DVA output voltage.

outboardignitiondotcom has test procedures.
Like Nordin said the stator can test good but be bad :(
The test results are different for the factory equipment and some aftermarket parts. CDI is one of the biggest replacement units and the test results are way different.
Make sure what your testing? Using a digital meter is harder than a sweep.
Do a compression and spark test before you attempt any other tests.
Not often the trigger goes bad, except the wire connector on the skinny wires. The wire breaks under the shrink wrap/connector, tug on each wire to see if it's broken.
Mark each wire, take pics so you know where the wires go back.
If your missing on one plug? swap the coils around and see if the miss follows the coil. I've only seen one maybe two coils bad in 40years.
The first 4 posts in this section, open them. They contain lots of hints for repairs.

Why the need for testing ?-----If spark does not jump a gap of 3/8" or so , some testing needs to be done.-----What is the issue with this motor ?

I replaced the stator because I bench tested it and resistance was significantly different between the two. The trigger tests were within specs so it was reinstalled. I will post the results of this at a later time.

Some will argue.-----I would star with a load test on your battery.----Then I would take the starter apart for inspection testing.----No $$ spent here.

The 125 Force was sold 83-89 they used a kill switch from 85 on.
Maybe try testing the switch?

Hey folks I replaced the stator and now I get spark on all four but as of the moment haven't succeeded in getting it to run. I do have this question, does the white wire for magneto switch to ground or to positive. I've checked for voltage at the key switch (white wire and there isn't +B) I'm a little concerned about trying to add that wire to a run spot on the ignition switch. I don't want to replace the stator again. Is it supposed to be positive when switch is in run .? Thanks

Cool thanks for the info I will use it most definitely use it, after I build it! I knew my stator was good when I grabbed the key switch while turning it over and got pretty good shock from it, I think I was touching the tach wire!

I do have spark.

Look at Mastertech Marine web site. They have diagram for Chrysler 125 Hp Prestolite ignition.
You find it under Tech spec/ common wire diagrams/ Chrysler Force.
