how to test battery selector switch

How can I test the battery selector switch without just bypassing???

Test light or voltmeter.
1) Set switch to OFF.
2) Check for voltage at the COM terminal. NONE = Good, anything else = not right.
3) Disconnect BAT 2 and set switch to BAT 1.
4) Check for voltage at the COM terminal. 12 volts = good. Anything else = not right.
5) Reconnect BAT 2 and disconnect BAT 1.
6) Set switch to BAT 2.
7) Check for voltage at the COM terminal. 12 volts = good. Anything else = not right.

Not Right means you may have voltage but if it is anything other than 12 volts (battery voltage) something is not right. If you have no voltage something is not right.

Under those various tests, would it also be a good idea to try some of the other electrical aspects like lights and starter? I've seen times where there was a voltage leak and it that looked like volts were present, but there was not enough current to do anything.

Of course it was not a marine application, but I think it should apply. Sometimes seeing voltage does not mean there is amperage.
