How to tell penn 309 years

Does anyone know how to tell the years different penn 309's were made? I heard it had something to do with the type and color of the handle. For example, a certain color = a certain decade. I have a few older ones and would like to know when they were made

The shape of the handle will give an indication of age but the color does not.

There is little value in 309. Not really a “vintage” reel and still in production today
