On my previous post I had asked about welding a cracked block. The mechanic is a friend of my dads. I think everyone thought I just happened upon him. Anyhow he is going to replace the exhaust manifolds, but the block is my main concern. It appears as though the block is cracked by the right freeze plug. If I run the motor and nothing comes out of the crack, does that mean it's not a big deal? Also this guy drives race cars with expensive motors 40-50K+. He uses some kind of expoxy on his racing motors. Would this work if the engine runs, but water leaks from the crack.

Secondly - I have a buddy that is familliar with boats and tells me this boat is worth 3K with a bad motor. It's in great shape. It's a Rinker 186 - 18' 4.3L 175-180HP with tandem axle trailer. I have not pressure tested the stern drive, but the boat doesn't have any scratches on the bottom, and the prop is untouched. Would I be crazy to pass up on this? What else can you get for $3K around this size and year?
