How to store an outboard

Just wondering if it is ok to store an outboard upright resting with all the weight on the skeg. I have a good cubbyhole that it can fit in perfectly without tipping over or anything. Just wanted to make sure it won't hurt it to always have the skeg support all the weight. Thanks.

If you set it on concrete, corrosion can set in. At least set it on a chunk of wood. Otherwise it depends on how heavy the motor is. How about lagging a 2x6 to a stud or something? Then you could hang it.

Careful putting your engines upside-down Mike. If there's no exhaust tuner in your engine, there's nothing keeping water still in the leg from ending up in the combustion chamber of one of the cylinders through an open exhaust port.
Even if there is an exhaust tuner, there's no guarantee that it's sealing surface hasn't warped a bit and it's leaking.
Just something to keep in mind!

Im talking about a 45 pound 5 hp Merc. Its setting on carpeted concrete. I would lag a 2 x in there to hang it from but I dont think there is enough room. So if there isn't, will it be ok just to leave it on the ground?
