Hello Guys. I just bought a 1976 5hp Ted Williams outboard. I want to mount it on my canoe for my grandson. Anyway, I got it to start, but am having trouble starting it each time. The decal behind the choke and the knob on the left has faded and I'm not sure what it says behind the left knob. I've read a couple of posts stating that these outboards are somewhat junk. I'd like to get it to start in a couple of pulls and keep it running each time he uses it. Can anyone out there direct me on how to get it that way?

Thanks in advance for any help,
John T.

Junk you say??? what dirty blackard would say that...lol ;) try one of the chinese models for some real junk,

The knob on the left is idle speed adjustment, initial setting will be 1 full turn out from soft bottom, but thats really not the problem. It more likly needs a carb cleaning and a kit and the correct spark plug and some understanding of how simple and dependable this motor really is. join the Eska Yahoo group and find a Tecumseh 2 cycle engine/carb manual.
