how to set the linkage on a remote control on a 1967 merc.outboard

hello guys can you help me to know how to set the remote control liknkage on the 50 hp merc outboard it is a 1967 500 el it is driving me crazy can anyone steer me in the right direction..i need to take it open but dont know how to turn the links and set the handle correctly.....thanks in advance...stewart

Take the motor ends and lay them where you can see them, shift control into F - the cable that moves first goes on the shift connection but you should shift back into N and motor should be in N also when connecting.
Turn the brass barrels to make cable fit.

With motor not running:
The throttle cable should be adjusted so that when in N the distributor rests against the idle stop screw, after this setting shift the control into F and push it all the way forward and look into the carbs to see if the throttles are opening fully.
