How to secure motor/transom mount on motor with new CMC power tilt/trim?

Hello everyone:

First post and could not find any help by searching, so I hope I am not asking a question that has already been beaten to death!

I have a 1992 Johnson 40 HP outboard with a manual tilt and trim that is shot (plenty of topics on that!). I have added a CMC PT-130 power tilt and trim and LOVE it!

As seen in other posts, I now have the problem of the motor moving several degrees freely - especially in reverse - the motor kicks up several inches. There are no apparent holes or tabs to secure the main body of the motor to the transom mount (as I have seen on Merc's) and the original tilt assist cylinder isn't holding firm.

Has anyone had this problem? How can I secure the motor so that it does not move on it's own?

thanks,

Dobber
1992 17' Tracker Deep V

ihave a cmc tilt trim . yes when you put in reverse it will kick up unless you lock the motor down . i never lock a motor down . if you do it will tear the back of the boat out . some motors lock down in reverse . some dont . i dont think the tilt trim will let the motor come up if you hit a underwater object. realy havent thought about it just leave the trip leaver on the motor where it will.papasage

Thanks, Papasage:

I think that's a good point - I'm sure the motor has a built-in safety feature that I would be disabling if I were to fix it solidly. I did note some other posts while searching that indicated that others also leave the motor "loose" and experience the same action when going into reverse. Maybe I should just leave well-enough alone!

Dobber
