How to restart a stalled Honda Outboard?

My boat was caught in a kelp bed. I tried to rev up the 8 HP Honda motor to force its way thru. Unfortunately the kelp wrapped around the propeller and stalled the engine.

I could not restart the engine after freeing it from the kelp.

The next day it motor will restart without any problem.

Is there an automatic shut-off override that prevent the engine from starting after an overload? If so, is it possible to reset the engine so it can start right away?

I would appreciate any insight?

Thanks a bunch!

Chris

My thought would be! did the kelp stall the engine, or an over-heat? I am not that familiar with Honda engines, but if you over heated it, it would restart after a cool down. I don't know if there is any such thing as a reset.

probably overloaded itself with fuel when bogging down. I.E. flooded and would have started after it drained down. That is the reason I run pressure gage on mine

Thanks for the ideas!

Based on these, would it make sense to remove the fuel line and the spark plug and use to pull-start to drain the fuel from the carburator by pulling a few time.

Then re-install the spark plug and try to start it again, this time with the fuel line connected?

My guess is that the engine was overheated.
