I would like to drain the lower gear oil on my VMAX SHO 250 but I don't know how to remove the water inlet screens. It's my understanding that the drain plug is accessible once the water inlet screens are removed. How are the water inlet screens removed?

Water inlet screen screws and the lower unit drain plugs are 2 entirely different things. The drain plugs are those big slot-head screws on the right(starboard) side of your motor foot. Good Luck!

Where is the lower unit drain plug? I see the 'upper' plug where the oil would be added but I don't see the 'lower' plug where the oil would be drained from. Is the lower plug on this model located in a different spot? Thanks.

There is a small allen head screw in the water pick up screen, remove this screw and remove the intake screen. There you will see the lower unit drain screw. Remove the lower screw, remove the upper screw, drain the lube, refill and replace the screws (top first) and be sure to use new gaskets. When you refill it make sure that the lube comes out of the top hole then leave it sit for a couple minutes and then add more lube. (it lets the air dissipate and fills the lower unit completely.)
