How to remove stuck Bravo Gimbal Housing

Hi everybody, I'm new here.

I have a 1993 5.7 Bravo II, and have my upper shaft pin rusted as all of them do with age. I have my engine out now, so I decided to remove the gimbal housing to replace the pin, bushings, and seal. I took out everything including inner plate, so now the gimbal housing is holding only by the big O-Ring transom seal and studs stuck in the transom (which looks good so far). Whatever I do to push the gimbal housing out, it will not budge. I probably need to apply some heat to studs from inside, or to gimbal housing from the outside?

Any advice or experience in removing stuck gimbal housing will be greatly appreciated.

Heating wood and fiberglass isn't going to work out very well, and probably not the problem. The transom shield may be sealed on with 3M 5200 or something similar which will glue it to the transom. Going around the edge and under the gasket with thin sharpened putty knife usually gets them cut free.

Ayuh,... Somebody musta Glued it on,..

Like Don said,... take a good quality putty knife, say a Hyde, that the blade goes all the way through the handle...
Then sharpen the cuttin' edge,+ work your way around the perimeter tapping it in with a hammer...
Eventually, you'll be able to push the knife in enough to seperate things...

That's the Trouble using Glue, instead of Gaskets...

Thank you, will try the putty knife. I was also thinking of rigging a giant "bearing puller" with 4x6 across the transom on two wooden blocks outside, and a small wooden plate inside connected with a threaded rod through the gimbal bearing...
I believe the installation is original from manufacturer, did they use any glue on Bravos in 1993? There are no signs of any sealant at the outside edge.

Some did, some didn't. Since no one here there or even knows what kind of a boat you have it's impossible to say.
If it doesn't have any sealer on the seal, you should be able to use a dead blow hammer or a block of wood on the studs inside. Just make sure you have the jinner transom shield out of harms way before you start swinging.

Sorry, my boat is Bayliner 2452, 5.7 Bravo II :). Profile updated... Inner plate is out of the boat already, will try putting the old nuts on the studs half thread for protection, and hit with a good hammer... thanks for the advice.

Finaly managed to get photos from my cell...
It came out pretty easy, no glue anywhere, just some stuck studs...
