Have a 1997 30 ELPTO that I broke the threads off the lower shift shaft and need to replace the shaft. Does the shaft come out with the bushing or is it a matter of removing everything from the gearbox? Its a plastic bushing housing not a metal one which I think unscrews. Thanks for any input.

~Okay, I got instructions from a local repair shop and am passing on the information if someone needs it in the future. The plastic shift shaft bushing is not threaded in this model engine, it pulls out with little or moderate force by pulling up on the shift shaft. The prop shaft and gears do not need to come out to remove it. I put vice grips on the shaft (where boot or bushing wont contact it) and gently tapped it up with a hammer.....so super easy fix for anyone needing to replace a shift shaft in this type engine. Rod can be rethreaded and a longer rod coupling nut used (there is clearance for it) or you can look four used instead of paying a hundred plus bucks for one.
