Hello all. I am trying to replace the propeller on 93 Johnson 115 hp model TJ115T. For some reason I can not remove the nut for the shift rod. There is no room. The lower cowling appears to one piece. And it is defiantly in the way. Does the drive head need to be removed? The book I have says to remove the pin and push the level out of the way. I cant figure it out. Surely I am missing something.

assuming you mean impeller, the pin/screw is under the intake/carb, I use a 3/8 socket on an extension with a universal joint

Yes impeller. I missed typed.

I've seen the videos on the johnson 150 hp using extension and socket. This is different. My repair manual calls for removing the retaining pin on the starboard side of the engine. The 150 hp video I saw is removed from port side. I believe this is what you are talking about.

So Im looking for info on the 115 hp.

The facts are.--------No nut / bolt needs to be removed at all-----Find the hitch pin on the shift lever on the motor.----Remove that pin.---Now push the shift lever in and rotate it.-----Shift rod is now released.----Did one the other day.

racerone, You are correct. Thank you. It was just as you said. It took me a while to figure out it has to be in neutral for my model. The book states reverse. But in reverse the level hits the engine block. Not allowing it to slide over enough to release the rod. Thanks again.
