I am pretty sure that it is not a rubber one but not positive. On the inside (towards the stern drive) it has a part #12-835467-1, the removable brass piece has part #826074 then B then 23. This is in a 48 832832A45 21P prop. Do I just need to push harder to get the "inside" piece out or what. I do not want to damage it if I can reuse it for my replacement prop of the same type.

Re: how to remove hub from old merc prop

Anybody have any ideas where I can search to find this information? I have tried searching these forums and also google and yahoo and no luck. I realize this may be a stupid question, but I wanted to keep from damaging the old hub kit. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Re: how to remove hub from old merc prop

I am posting this for anybody else who may be as new as I am to this. If it is not a rubber hub, and is the plastic type for the Mercury prop, then this will help. The thrust washer that goes between the prop and the stern drive on the prop shaft will sometimes "stick" to the back of the prop, which does make it seem as if it is part of the prop. You can loosen this by lightly tapping on the sides of the washer. I used a hammer and a steel file and tapped a few times, then turned the prop a little and tapped a few more times, I did this and it was broken loose before I got all the way around with the prop. Then the plastic hub can be tapped lightly from the front of the prop and it will break free also, then once it is cleaned up it can all be installed into the new prop. Here is a link that describes how it can be installed. Hope this can help someone else!

A rubber hubbed prop is very obvious when viewed from the back. If you see rubber all the way around the hub, it's a rubber hubbed prop. If you don't -- it isn't. If it's not a rubber hubbed prop, the hub components come out as previously explained. The prop you have is a mercury part number. Check their web site (Parts Express).
