how to remove engine cover (Evinrude 3HP 1989) ?

Hallo all,<br /><br />i just bought a 1989 Evinrude 3hp outboard, modelnr. BE3BRCEC. <br /><br />I was trying to open the enginecover but i cant find any clams, that normaly are used to hold a outboard enginecover.<br /><br />Can anybody help me ?<br /><br />Greets from the Netherlands,<br /><br />Marcel

recheck your number should be on the transom mount. can find the number you gave,

By the way Welcome to the forum Marcel,<br /><br />You can go to this link BRP site and a locate diagrams of your motor, maybe you can recognize something that will help.<br /><br />If that site doesn't work you can try iShopMarine.com, they have the same diagrams available.

Thank you Mike,<br /><br />i have looked at the diagrams from Bombardier.<br /><br />What i can see from there, is that there a 2 screws on each site that hold the engine cover together with some fiddely plates at the back...<br /><br />Before i am going to the tear the cover down, i first would like to know what i can aspect...<br /><br />Greets from the Netherlands,<br /><br />Marcel<br /><br />ps, my excuses for my poor english...

From looking at the diagram, you have to unscrew the cover off. It doesn't have the latches. There's one in the front and back.<br /><br />EDIT: DOH! beat me to it.....took me too long to make sure I was right

You should expect a clean engine under that cover. Check condition of wiring, look for any worn or cracked insulation. Check fuel lines too. And of course look at spark plugs and carb. .
