How to remove drive shaft seal from 1973 25 HP Johnson LU?

Repair manual shows special tool for it.
Is there any tricks how to do it without it?

Check places like Harbor Frieght, Napa and ect. They may have some inexpensive seal pullers. I made my own years ago but to hard to describe here. The trick is to get something that will hook into the seal and the pop it out. You can always put them back in with the right size socket.

A seal puller is only $15 at any auto parts store. Just pry up gently at several points around the perimeter of the seal to remove it. Be careful not to scratch or score the housing. The seal will be destroyed in the process.
