Are there any tricks to removing the carb for a 67 Evinrude 40hp big twin?

It actually looks very simple, remove the 2 bolts, but they are behind the carb and tools and hands cannot get in there. I have started taking off the generator, but then found that will not come off until other items are removed, etc.And this is just for one of the bolts.

I need to swap out the carb. It has a broken slow speed needle and have taken it to 2 repair shops including local dealer and they do not want to fix it. Dealer said they could not get broken needle out.

Novice here, so go easy.

Welcome to the outboard world. There are no shortcuts. Remove what needs to be removed, and later, reinstall them properly. Otherwise you will encounter problems that will drive you nuts.

Have you found a replacement carb, or are you going to try to remove the broken needle?

I am swapping out the carb as instructed by dealer.

They said the low speed needle broke and it fell inside and cannot get it out.
Their only option was to swap carb.. Does this sound like a fair statement? I do have another carb.

Are there instructions or video online that show how to change the slow speed needle, if I get get the broken one out?

until then, grounded on dry land.

You simply unscrew the needle. You could then remove the soft plug on top of the calbration pocket to see if the needle tip is stuck in the seat. If it is, drill a 1/16" hole in front of the pocket, and tap needle tip out with a small punch. Seal drilled hole with a lead shot. I have done this more than once.
