I have a 1975 135 v4 Johnson outboard motor. I would like to put a power tilt/trim system on it but am unsure what all is needed. Can someone guide me?

CMC makes a nice tilt/trim unit. Just goes between your motor and transom. Find it right here on iboats.

There are two methods. Unfortunately both will cost you $400+

You can try to find an OEM unit for pre-1978 Johnson/Evinrudes which routinely go for $400 on ebay or you can go with a CMC unit like rocky mentioned above ($500+). The more modern post 1978 units will not fit your motor.

I had a 1973 Johnson 85 that I really wanted to put TnT on and I searched for years for a deal on a compatible OEM unit to no avail.

Welcome to iboats.

I have a CMC and yes they are rpicey but it has worked flawlessly for 6-7 years now and is probably the best money I have spent on the boat.

Just the though of trying to find an actual working 33 year old tilt trim and then taking the engine apart to put it on to maybe have it work is worth what the CMC costs, they are super simple to install and work out of the box and you can run the engine a bit higher because of the set back.

If you actually get one it would be a good time to double check your transom since you have the engine off anyhow, if it needs rebuilt this woudl be a good time to do that.

Another plus to the CMC unit it that if you someday get a newer engine with TnT and don't need it anymore....you can probably sell it for close to what you paid for it.
