That's how they do it in Canada, Fire departments are few and far between.

Here is another example

Also that's not a water drop, that is foam, much better results in this type of fire.

That airplane can do either water or foam, it doesn't care either way.

We were on the lake one day when a plane a little smaller than that was skimming the lake to fill up. He probably did it 10 times. On another lake we watch a helicopter fill up his bucket 5 or 6 times. Its pretty cool to watch them.

Am I the only one wondering how the first accident happened? Looked like truck v. Earth mover.

I dunno MUSKY I thought the same as you! I'm guessing the FD may have been committed on other calls, but I am told the CL-415's(the aircraft shown) are on Hot Standby through the summer in most of western Canada.

The information I had was the same as you, a road grader and a semi head on, I can only assume that the road grader was cutting the road as a majority of roads in northern Canada are dirt, and the semi hit it. not unusual to have those two vehicles sharing the roads up there it is very common even in winter from what I am told, but I am sure our northern Brothers would have more information then I do.

In northern Canada thousands and thousands of miles of road are dirt, in most cases it does not make economic or from a engineering perspective good sense to make them an all weather paved road.
To much frost in the ground including the perma frost the roads just buckle up and down all year, or the vehicles just sink into muskeg areas if the road was not corded (see building the Alaska HWY)

As for use of the water bomber, there can be hundreds of miles between fire department and use of the plane is the fastest response, I think there is a note under the video that stated the nearest fire departments assets where tied up on another call.
