how to pull 3.0 merc

ok starter bolt broke on my 99 3.0 merc now im ready to pull eng . what all do i need to do, unbolt from front mount, bellhouseing, wireing, cables,then do i need to pull the outdrive are will the shaft slide out like a driveshaft in a trans please dont tell me about trying to use easy outs and mirrors. alpha one outdrive

You have to pull the outdrive first (6 nuts and the trim ram pin)
and will need an alingnment tool (ebay) to reinstall

Ayuh,....

It's Outdrive 1st,.. Then the front motor mount,+ Rear Motor Mounts,....
What you're calling the Bellhousing is called the Flywheel Cover on these boats,+ Stays with the Motor....

Real easy, go to section 2A in the service manual link below. Step by step directions. Be sure NOT to use the ring on the thermostat housing to lift the engine. There is NOTE / Caution in the manual about it.
