I have twin 7.4 Volvo Gsi engines.
I am having an issue with the Port engine.
I keep on a hoist. When put into water Port
Engine will not prime and push water out exhaust. Impellers are new. Raw water pump looks ok. I don’t see any groves etc.
is there a way to prime engine once in the
Water. I put a hose in the strainer and it will
Not prime.

welcome aboard

the motor is self-priming unless you have a blockage. simply dunking the motor in the water will allow water to flood up to the crank mounted raw water pump.

suggest when you are on the lift (not in the water) you pull the line from the PS cooler to the raw water pump off the raw water pump and back-flush what ever is blocking the line/ps cooler/hose/fitting at drive/internal drive passages.

also, inspect the fitting at the drive that the hose connects to at the gimbal housing. they are a known failure point.

Thanks for the reply. These are inboards so I will back flush from raw water pump to strainer.
That’s a good idea.
