How to OMC Outdrive

Hi all,

With the renovation project of my boat, I came over two areas, which I have no good idea how to proceed.

a) When I got the boat, the lower fin under the prop of the lower unit ( do not really know an exact name for it ) probably has dragged on the ground and is bend some to the right. Question is, how do I get it back straight? I just do not want to dangle it back, because I am afraid that it will break. Anyone has a good idea how to straighten this little fin?
b) If I look at the outdrive, there are dings in the paint, and some areas have no pint at all. What is the best way, in order to strip and repaint the outdrive? If have the drive of the boat, and I can work freely on it at the moment?

Thanks

It's called a skeg brummer. I would not tamper with it beyond filing off any rough spots. You are correct that you could stand to break it if you try to straighten/bend it.

It probably would not have much effect on steering that could not be adjusted out with the trim tab. (you did not state model and year)

As for paint, sand the area down, wash it in white vinegar, then shoot it with Zinc Chromate. You can get reasonably durable OMC white rattlecan paint at your local boat supply house.

Thanks so much Boomyal, for the link. Looks doable to me, will get the paint and prep for painting.

Take care
