How to mount auxilliary engine.

I have a 24' Doral Cavalier 1989 and want to add an auxilliary outboard motor.
2 Questions

What size outboard would I need as a minimum?
The boat has a swim platform the entire width of the boat. How would I mount the outboard on the swim platform.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

I'd think a 15 would be appropriate. You can build an angle bracket to mount to the swim platform, but I'm afraid that they get a lot of backwash on rapid deceleration that could overwhelm a kicker.
