How to measure the beam of my boat

I am going to buy a new travel cover for my boat and I need the beam measurement. Where do I do the measuring from and to, as I am not sure. Thanks

Beam is just the width of your boat, at the widest part. According to NADA Guides, a 1978 Starcraft Tristar 17' has a beam of 6' 10".
