Stick an old tow ball with the mounting bolt cut off in the hitch and put a lock through the release lever. Bondo's tire idea is very effective.

You can mark your trailer any way you want, but I would do something that is easy for officials to see as they cruise by. Such as a distinctive series of holes in a non-structural part of the frame or fender or a series of bands of reflective tape around the tongue or the like. Also laminate a business card and hide it inside the frame or behind a tail light out of sight. That way when the owner is confronted, you can say your card is there. Hard for the theif to explain your business card being hidden in "his" trailer.

Use a hand held engraving tool and make a unique number.
The police dept has engravers for us to borrow and recommend a number that is made up of half your drivers license number and your birth date. Place it out of site so that theives will not see it too easily, and grind it off.

Insure it for twice what its worth and park it in the bad part of town. :D

I always hid the numbers so that I was the only one that knew where they where. Like inside the C-Channel, under a fenderwell, like that.

Forget marking it!

Just ensure that you own the worst looking trailer in town and nobody will want it; however, if somebodies good trailer is stolen...you'll be the prime suspect!

If you are truly that concerned about someone stealing your trailer the thought of them ripping off the stuff in your boat ought to drive you insane.
Buy insurance (which you should have anyway). take reasonable precautions, and get on w/your life.

Coupla wheel clamps like the parking cowboys use.

Don't lose the key while you're fishing though!

Marking a trailer won't prevent theft. That's what big chains and padlocks are for.

If in the backyard, chain it to a tree. If at the ramp, chain it to the tow vehicle.

Just make it more difficult in hopes the thief will look for one easier one to steal.

I have a tongue lock. It looks like a two inch ball with a locking coupler on the outside, it would take a plasma torch to get this thing off. And when the trailer is on the truck use master all weather locks, if you work that hard at a public landing you can have it. Thats what insurance is for.

Mark a trailer?

Spray paint diagonal stripes on it with day glow paint! Make it so obvious (and ugly) that no one would think of stealing it!

Is it registered? Does it have a VIN number? License tag?

I have a double axel Trail Rite trailer for my cutty cabin, that has a removable tongue, with a brake line disconnect. I don't remove it here at home or in the local waters, but I sure as h*ll remove the tongue when I tow my boat to mainland Mexico, and fish the Sea of Cortez. It gives me real peace of mind down there.

...Bob in Calif...

Well, shoot! I'd just about pay a guy to steal my crappy old trailer. Then I could convince she who must be obeyed to let me get a new one.

Park your trailer next to my wifes car. She'll mark it like she marked the bumper on my suburban.

Don't go there!!! My new truck(the Ranger) got a bumper dent and SWMBO never lets me forget it and refuses to back up the trailer. She will happily park the truck (My F-150)however.
