I have a Mercury 75hp 4 stroke outboard. The owner's manual doesn't help me to figure out how to manually lower the motor since the hydraulics are not working

Re: how to manually tilt motor

There is a large nylon screw in the side of your trim system, underneath the motor. The "passenger side" transom bracket has a hole in it where you can reach through with a large screwdriver and loosen the screw. Loosen it 2-1/2 turns and the engine should fall. If you loosen the screw (MRV) and the engine does not fall then it is very possible that the tip of your MRV has broken off inside your system. In this case, continue unscrewing the MRV so that you can inspect it. Expect a lot of oil to come out of the hole and possibly even spray the rear out your boat. The MRV should come loose with 4 to 5 turns. It should have three orings and a rounded tip.
