I decide to buy a 2001 carburated 200hp mercury. I want to have more horses without open the short block. It is possible.
Thanks for any advise.

Buy a bigger motor. Sorry there are no magic things you can do to the motor. Make sure the motor is tuned properly and you are running the correct prop.

Add some sea foam to your fuel. Might not add any real power but you will think it did.

Well there are a couple of things that can be done to make more horsepower and to add speed. First you MUST find a good two stroke speed mechanic. He can recut the ports and change the reed valves. As a genereal rule changing the reeds is done to give more power at lower RPM's But changing the ports will add MPH to the motor and give you more BHP and speed. No to many mechanics around these days, that can make this modification. If I knew one I would sure use him and give his name out.

I can get more power out of it but the fellow does not want to open it up, and reeds have nothing to do with hp. Porting is a total different subject as you are changing the time fuel air mixture stays in cylinders and distributed thru intake ports and exhaust..(simple version)

Its a "'lectronic, o-ring head motor" Bolt on parts ain't gonna do nothin' you will feel in your butt. You're stuck with it. Cheaper ta buy a ProMax, Xs or better................JMO

Agree. The reality is that if you want a motor to go fast you have to start inside. All you get with bolt on stuff is cool stickers for your cowling.

These motors, when stock, live in a sort of balance. For example, if you add a spacer plate you'll probably need to rejet your carbs and for sure you have to make a custom throttle link and probably grind out the lower cowlings. And for what,, 3-4 hp... It's not worth it.

You best bet for getting all you can out of the motor is to work with the way the engine is setup on the boat and props.

If you can, get the original center of balance (CB) for the boat and see if you have it loaded correctly. The water line, if painted on as a stripe from the factory should coincide with the CB for the boat. This will be difficult to do with a Bass boat. Experimentation and common sense will be your best friends.
