how to make 24 volt from a normal 12 volt battery, because the trolling is a 24 volt

Hi. just wondering If I can buy something relatively cheap to easily transform the 12 v from my battery into 24 v ? I ask because I got this new 24v trolling motor...I believe manufacturer says for safety to get a 80 amp fuse...so I guess this " transformer " would need to be at least 80 amp proof...?? I know I can get another battery and connect them to make 24 volts, but we can not afford the extra weight in your canoe.... what do you think ? other options beside selling it ? thanks

There is no reasonable way to do this with one 12V battery. A transformer works on AC, not DC, so you are talking conversion from DC to AC, stepping up the AC to 24V with a transformer, then converting it back to DC, with efficiency losses at each step.

a step up transformer then rectifier bridge to make it flow as dc, i think this would drain your battery too fast, i would just sell it or trade for a 12v motor, i'm sure someone has a 12v motor and wants a 24v

The lesson here is not to buy 24 volt stuff when you can only afford 12 volts worth of power. You cannot get blood out of a turnip and you cannot get 24 volts out of a 12 volt battery without converting to AC via an inverter, then a transformer to get 24 volts AC then a rectifier to make it DC again. Another 12 volt battery is readily available for about $75. But as was mentioned, there are 12 volt trollers for about $100 and you can run it on one battery.

I agree with Bond-O . . . dump the idea of using two batteries in a canoe. That's a dangerous idea!
Like Bond-O said, Walmart has trollers cheap. A 2nd battery would cost you like $75 at Walmart . . .
A 30 lb thrust Minn Kota is only $99. Just tell Wifey what she just bought you for Father's day!

My Daughter trolls for Trout in her Canoe with the $99 Minn Kota 30.
I made her a bracket similar to this one pictured off Ebay.
There was a vendor on Ebay that recently was selling the one I made for like $25. He might be out of stock cause I don't see them listed. A friend just picked one up 2 weeks ago, maybe the vendor is just out of stock.

You should be using a "deep cycle" battery for the troller.
I use Walmart's batteries. Decent prices for their Marine batteries.
Make sure you charge it up as soon as you get home and don't run it flat. I only run mine down to around 20% left.
You could probably make this design yourself for like $10.
