How to know what is cracked engine block, head or exaust manifold?

Hi I'm new here hoping to find an answer how do I find out what's cracked on my 1972 inline 6 cylinder gm motor I took it out for the first time this year for about 45 mins and the motor filled with water till it stalled out no gauges moved everything was normal till she died now the motor is in peices but can't find a crack gaskets where all good and there was only water in the oil non in the pistons and no oil in the water

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... You have to pressurize the coolin' passages with air,....

of course, it'd been Alot easier to do, before ya tore it apart,...

what did it do last year?
Where do you live?
Was it winterized properly?

Water can't get into the oil pan from a cracked manifold, so it's either the block or the head. If the old head gasket is in ok condition, I'd be putting it back on and tightening down the head again, putting the water pump and thermostat housing/water distribution block back on and pressurising it up to find where the crack is....

Thx a lot I guess I'll have to it back together to find out and yes I didn't winterize it right

Ayuh,.... Most Machine Shops can find the problem, without wastin' all the gaskets,...

Ayuh,.... Most Machine Shops can find the problem, without wastin' all the gaskets,...

Wasn't suggesting new gaskets, just that if the old ones are in ok shape, use them. It's just for a pressure test, I'm not suggesting running the engine with them :facepalm: ;)
